A REFLECTION ON COMPARISON FROM ELIZABETH AS A LATINA THERAPIST & ENTREPRENEUR

Dear Caliadad Familia,

Lately, I’ve been reflecting more on the topic of comparison. As I navigate my own entrepreneurial journey, I have found that it is crucial to practice self-compassion and give ourselves grace.  Building a business or pursuing our dreams can be challenging and demanding. It’s easy to  fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to others, which can be detrimental to our mental  health and hinder our progress.

Jasmine Star, a self made Latina entrepreneur and CEO put it best in a recent podcast episode when she said, “comparison is the killer  of dreams”. When we constantly compare ourselves to others, we tend to overlook our own  achievements and strengths. This can lead to feelings of inadequacy, self-doubt, and even  depression.

Instead, we should focus on our own journey and progress. Celebrate our wins, no matter  how small, and acknowledge the effort we put into our work. By practicing self compassion, we can cultivate a positive mindset and maintain our mental well-being.

It’s important to remember that everyone’s path is unique, and success looks different for  each individual. Comparing ourselves to others only distracts us from our own goals and  aspirations. By staying true to ourselves and embracing our own journey, we can overcome  challenges and achieve our dreams.

So, while gratitude and saying thank you are powerful tools for mental health, it is equally  important for entrepreneurs to be kind to themselves, practice self-compassion, and avoid the trap of comparison. By doing so, we can nurture our mental well-being and continue to  thrive in our entrepreneurial journeys
