Chiropractic Care & Mental Health

In an age where holistic approaches to wellness and Mental Healthcare remain underutilized, we aim to shed light on the connections between them in hopes to educate our community on ways they can improve their “Calidad” (Spanish for quality) of their physical and mental well being. The following Vignette is an example of one of the ways Chiropractic care is utilized to supplement 1:1 Therapy goals and overall wellness.

Karina is a 56-year-old Salvadoran single Christian female who identifies as heterosexual. She is the middle child of three siblings, and immigrated to the states when she was 5 years old. She is now the mother of 3 girls. She currently works full time as a CNA. In recent years, Karina has been struggling with an autoimmune disease and thyroid issues that have been impacting her physical and emotional well-being. On top of these health challenges, she has also been grappling with the trauma of her immigration experience. She has been feeling overwhelmed and isolated, and has been struggling to balance her responsibilities as a mother and as a caregiver for her elderly parents.

In therapy, Karina has been working on processing her experiences of immigration trauma and the impact it has had on her mental health. She has been learning coping skills to manage her symptoms and to support her well-being. She has also been exploring the connection between her physical and emotional health, and learning how to advocate for her needs.

Recently, Karina has added chiropractic care to her weekly mental health therapy sessions. She has found that chiropractic care has been helpful in managing her physical symptoms and in reducing her pain and discomfort. She has also noticed that her mental health has improved as a result of the physical relief she experiences from chiropractic care.
