ABANDONMENT AS A FORM OF MULTI-GENERATIONAL TRAUMA

Abandonment is a form of multigenerational trauma that gets passed down from generation to generation. Abandonment trauma can arise from physical absence, emotional neglect, or a lack of connection and security from primary caregivers. This deep-seated fear of being left behind or unworthy can significantly impact our relationships, self-esteem, and mental health.

Understanding abandonment involves recognizing its various forms, including physical abandonment, where a caregiver physically leaves or is absent, and emotional abandonment, where a caregiver may be physically present but emotionally unavailable or neglectful. Both types can leave lasting scars that ripple through generations, affecting how we form and maintain relationships.

Healing from abandonment trauma is a journey. It requires acknowledging the pain, seeking therapy, and actively working to break the cycle. Through this process, we can create healthier patterns and relationships for ourselves and future generations.

If you’ve experienced this or are working through it, know that healing is possible. By sharing our stories and supporting one another, we can foster a community of resilience and strength.
